This annual celebration of music began in 1982 and is now enjoyed in cities throughout the world. Concerts are organised for public enjoyment with amateur and professional musicians encouraged to perform. Beginning as the Fête de la Musique in Paris, the citywide event was sparked by the Ministry of Culture who wished to see more young people play musical instruments. June 21st is the the day when all genres of music can be heard in 130 countries.
