As more drawing is undertaken digitally, the act of mark making is replicated by software parameters. There is no shortage of irony that digital textures invoke a materiality which they do not have. Paper was once paramount to the draftsman, who understood that the surfaces worked upon were as important as the tools of his chosen medium. The cover that binds the paper is also a surface, and one which calls to be personalised. Perhaps a sentiment recognisable from the days of youth; after all, why not make the outer correlate to what lies within.
